WAITING FOR PULLETS TO LAY FIRST EGGS
11-21-11 Our chicks have grown into beautiful birds! Now we are waiting for our first eggs. The coop turned out great. My husband built a 4 x 4 coop about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. It has one sliding window, pop door (I painted it red) that slides up and down by pulling a rope, and opens at the back. There are 2 doors. A wide one to clean the coop and a narrow one to access the nest boxes. We have a run for the chickens that we call the "inner run" and another one we let them out to a few hours a day that we call the "outer run." We used to let them out to the whole backyard, but didn't like the poop they left all over the place.
4-14-11 My husband, kids, and I are waiting for our chicks. We are expecting the chicks June 1st. 2 Ameracaunas, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Delaware, and 1 Welsummer.
In the meantime we will be working on the coop. Our plan is for a 4 x 4 coop. Plans will be finalized soon.
