Me and my other half were at the feed store a couple of weeks ago. We were talking to the owner about finally being finished on our coop now that our girls are almost ready to lay. She made the comment that "some people are so over the top that they build coops that look like mini versions of their house". We both immediately started laughing. Yup, we're over the top but managed to use a lot of re-purposed stuff including pallets, fence posts, 2 liter bottles and leftover paint from recently painting the house. The ventilation doors on the front and nest box doors on the right were $5 bucks a piece at habitat for humanity. I'll be back with more photos including the solar powered interior!

Would have liked to see more of this coop...how it was built, dimensions, cost, etc.

I'm in Tampa too. Love the Ybor chickens and roos. I work at Hcso on 8th Ave and listen to the roos every morning at work. I have taken several pics of them too. I got a pic of a young white chicken, looks like a hen to me, looks like she may be related to the one in your picture. Can we attach pics to these threads?

Im in Tampa. Did a lot of drinking at Ybor back in the day! Lol Do u ever get some of the "wild chickens" coming to your house. I was having dinner at Acropolis and there were 3 hens and a rooster roosting up right across the street. It was very cool, they were game birds! I guess the relatibes of the Cuban birds they used for fighting back in the day. Awesome coop btw

Ybor City, a neighborhood nestled next to downtown Tampa, is one of only two National Historic Districts in Florida. Ybor, pronounced (eee-bor) is known for it's cigars, nightlife, rich Latin Culture AND It's Chickens! The entire city of Tampa is designated as a bird sanctuary and Ybor Chickens have special protection.
