Penny in mourning...

My 9+ year old Turken hen died a week ago Saturday. :( Penny, the remaining hen has hardly been eating & drinking, & is crowing 15+ times each morning. In an effort to help her feel better, we put up Turken's photo by the mat she used to sit on. Penny sat for over 30 min. staring at her friend.

When she first sat down she tried "talking" to her and later pecked at the photo, but she still came back later and sat for a long while without moving at all.... I think she looks so sad....
I have no idea if is helping or not. She is definitely not herself... any suggestions are welcome. We did go out and get her some live worms and crickets and she was very happy, so I fed her a lot... I guess I'll just keep giving them to her... I also took her to the vet yesterday and she was given some fluid and a shot of B vitamins to help stimulate her appetite...(they also took a fecal sample.)

I am sorry your Penny is grieving. Thanks for the reminder that critters form attachments to other critters. I hope Penny does well. She is lucky to have your understanding.

@LeggyLeghorn Yes! I actually ran out and got two pullets the day after Turken died, because Penny started crowing! I was afraid of my neighbor... but frankly, it didn't seem to help... then, finally, yesterday just over three weeks after Turken died, she finally stopped crowing! Whew. She is also finally eating more and eating out of our hands again! It's amazing how hard it was for her, but then, it was just Turken and Penny. I think I'll make a point of always having at least 3 chickens. Unfortunately, her fecal came out positive for Heterakis gallinarum... so now I have to figure out what to do about that!
