The primary bucket is covered by a screen to help keep out tree litter. The secondary bucket is also kept filled thanks to a siphon connecting it to the first. A tap is run from the siphon and I use it to fill the Sparkletts style watering trough.
The tarp provides shade, protects from rain and the occasional snow. It also is tapered to funnel that water into the buckets.
