The big coop doors are mainly for cleaning access. I found that if I leave them wide open during the day, the coop dries out and stays cleaner. Poop dries in the sun, bugs fly out. The coop is 35" from the ground, and the hens fly right up into it from their enclosed yard area. Their "official" access to the coop is via a roost and ramp in a fully enclosed run, that lead to a small chicken door in the coop.
The latest improvement: a paved courtyard. Here you see the big 4x4 coop on the right, where the four adult hens sleep, and the smaller 2x4 coop, where the four pullets and cockerel sleep.

I made two round windows in the coop, one from a big glass plate and one from a big glass lid. The windows are on either side of one of the roosts. The hens love the two window seats!!
