HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

She died. RIP Frankie. Thank you for all your support. Biggest lesson learned was hybrids don’t live long and bred to produce fast and die young. Wish I knew that before I brought any home. I really liked Frankie, she was my favorite from the start.

HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

I decided not to give up on my hen. did some thinking and decided to treat her as if she was egg bound and gave her an epsom salt bath with a gentle massage towards the end of the bath. She perked up a bit following the massage. And drank a bit of bath water, (don’t know how much epson salt I...

Wow . What breeds are your birds? Where do you find birds that live that long?

HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

mused to know what breed she is but I forgot. She’s cream colored but has been molting darker every time. I remember the breed started with an A. Chicks all came from a hatchery but not from tractor supply. Local feed mill orders a bunch of chicks in the spring from a commercial hatchery...

HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

the poison was put out yesterday night. Brought back in before hens left the roost. Don’t worry the mice didn’t even touch it. I checked the bait and the cameras.

HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

Aw dang. So not much I can do. Should I just return her to her friends in the coop? Or should I continue trying to get her to drink and the oil? Could she have been dehydrated and caused this? Or is it for sure reproductive failure?

HELP! Sick hen diarrhea and crop hadn’t emptied.

I always leave grit for them but we had snow come in November and I moved it to the inside of the coop. They don’t like the snow. But now that the snow melted they are hanging out in the chicken run. Dirt floor with out grit. I just did the massaging (actually was doing that already). However...

    HELP!! Sick hen

Yeah but like I said that’s probably from another hen who I have already identified as laying shelless eggs. I don’t think my sick hen can get to the nest box. It’s high. Just lower than the roost by 6” and she can’t get up to roost. I just had to lift her up to the roost tonight.

    HELP!! Sick hen

So did some reading and found out that’s a lash egg. And that was probably from another hen named ginger. She has been laying shelless eggs. And I actually had to pull one of them out of her last week. So she most likely has Salpingitis. I think I’m striking out here. Been a bad year for the...

    HELP!! Sick hen

Ok so few developments. Walter (the hen) is actually looking better. A lot better. But I found something really weird in the nest box, i have NEVER seen. It’s grossing me out. Looks like a gizzard. Cut it open and still looks like a gizzard but cooked, I threw up in my mouth a little bit. I...

Thank you for the squaring. I know more about horses than fowl. Not a biologist.

    HELP!! Sick hen

Edited for typos. It’s really weird! It’s not an open wound. Skin is smooth to the touch. It it right under the tip of the breast plate Cartledge. If it was an open wound I would be able to apply first aid but .... I don’t think the skin was ever broke. No odor. But I have a bad nose. I’ll get...
