Mixing babies back into the flock

So... would you recommend free ranging them all together right off the bat? The regular flock and my older hen rotate free ranging days but the young birds haven’t free ranged at all yet. I should also clarify that they free range in my backyard because I live in a rural town. Could I start by...

Mixing babies back into the flock

I also have an older hen that I was going to try and integrate at the same time. I figured more targets would spread out the bullying. And if the banty roo was too ugly to everyone I can always pull him out for a week. I’ve never had to do that with him before though....

Mixing babies back into the flock

The chicks are about 8 weeks old. I wanted them to be a little bigger before integrating as I have a banty roo that is low man on the pecking order... I have integrated other clutches with him without a problem but was worried he might hurt smaller chicks.

Mixing babies back into the flock

The babies my two hens hatched out are ready to be integrated into the flock. They have been living next to the big flock in a separate pen with their moms since hatching. I’m going to put them in the coop tonight and watch closely for excessive bullying. My big flock free ranges during the day...

    Tapping inside egg

The chick was dead :( The yolk hasn’t been fully absorbed, it’s beak was badly misaligned, and it only had one eye. Probably had a multitude of issues before attempting its hatch. Thanks for all your help!

    Tapping inside egg

I never heard any chirping, just the tapping. I candles this morning and can see the triangle of the beak poking into the air sack but no movement that I could see. And no tapping this morning.

    Tapping inside egg

The tapping has stopped and there isn’t any movement coming from the egg. It has internally pipped. I know it takes as long as it takes but with no sound or movement I am beginning to expect the worst. Any words of advice would be appreciated...

    Tapping inside egg

I moved them into a box with a thermometer/hygrometer, heat lamp, and a damp washcloth nearby for humidity. He/she is still tapping What temp should I be shooting for during pipping? My broodies have always handled the details before!

    I’m new here!!

hi! My name is Abby! I’ve been keeping chickens for 5 years and have a mixed flock including 2 roosters: a Silkie and a Japanese, and their hens: a Welsummer, Wyandotte, Ameraucana, Barred Rock, Mille Fleur, and two hens of questionable parentage I got from our local shelter! I’m looking...

    Tapping inside egg

I have two broody hens that shared a clutch this year. While I was out of town (they had a capable babysitter!) a couple late eggs got snuck in! The hens took turns sitting the eggs and caring for hatched babies. But neither is sitting them now. I can hear tapping coming from one but it’s been...
