Regarding the Horses in our lives...

She's 27 years old & just get horrid welts from bug bites. If she's not wrapped up from head to toe, she'll just itch herself raw. Both big horses & all 3 minis get fly masks. I never have a problem with anybody taking them off

All I can tell you is that all 5 roos were "this spring hatch". The RIR are probably right about the 8 pound mark. The BR's are probably 4. Thanks for the links. I'll check it out

Finding the right breed for me

I have always wanted Dominique's when I start my flock. Recently, I brought home a few excess rooster's from a friend that we are going to process. 3 RIR's & 2 barred rock. I was explaining to Hubby that the Dom's that I want are similar to the barred rock's. He looks at me and said " nope...

Question about bird flu quarantine states

I'm in Nebraska, which has banned all poultry shows & sales until January 1, 2016. Today my husband saw a semi full of turkeys going through town. How could anyone be shipping birds through a quarantined state???

    Fruits and Veggies?

Chickens like raw sweet corn also. A little redneck entertainment for everyone: When we had to much sweet corn on hand, my dad would tie a string to the end of an ear and hang it from a low branch. 3 or 4 hens would start pecking at it & man that sucker would start swinging!! It was...
