Thanks for the info. I sell eggs at a local farmers mafket and a lkt of people just dont want the white eggs. Hoping these will indeed be a light shade of brown. Cute looking chicks mostlt white with black specks all over so far.
I have recently hatched several chicks that were the product of white leghorn hens and a splash orpinton rooster. What should I expect in their egg color when the start laying. Will theh be fuller bodied but still great layers? Anyone had this cross willing to share what they experienced?
had a question and thought this might be the best place to get an answer...
I have several breeds of chickens, Barnevelders included. All of my chickens are less than 2 years old and have all been healthy with no problems. I have however had two Barnevelders that have died for no visible...
I have one that has been sitting for a few weeks - I take the eggs and she still sits. I move her and she goes back or picks a new place. Very fussy but not mean when I take the eggs. I hope she gives up soon!

I am just watching my GLW chicks grow. Can't wait for warmer weather so I can move them to the outside coop permanantly. Most were hatchery chicks and a few were from eggs hatched. Some look great, some don't but I will give them time to grow and see how they look then. Ended up with three...
i know but the others she hatched with had waddles and combs that were easily three times the size of hers and that was over 2 weeks ago. The last EE I had developed like this as well. I am going to keep hoping it is a girl and let a bit more time pass. thanks.
Hooray! me too. I am thinking she is just an early/fast developer. My husband was doubting me so I figured I better get some other opinions.
Wondering if anyone out there thinks that EE in general develop quicker or is just the Leghorn in this one?
So this is an EE that hatched Dec 1st. It is most likely a Leghorn X EE, not sure which was which for mom and dad but that is what was around. So...just not sure. Had others that were definitely roosters that had waddle and comb development that far surpassed this one that were in same batch...
