I have two lavender araucanas. I’m not 100% sure on their ages to be honest but I believe one is a roo and one is a hen. The one I suspect to be hen I think is 2 weeks or so younger than the ‘roo’. I picked them up on Nov 25th at 9 weeks old so they should be around 16 weeks or so. Appreciate...
I ended up returning all 4 to the breeder we got them from. They all continued to look more and more like roos. Here’s a photo of the two girls we got in return for stark contrast! One is an olive egger (orange tone feathers) and the other is Australorp.
I think I definitely need to keep them all for a fair few more weeks. They’ve kept me guessing for a while on gender. I honestly don’t think they’re all roos like the breeder thinks.
This is a gorgeous australorp hen I’ve got at the moment laying an egg a day so you can see how the red wattles and combs can throw ya off when they definitely come out dark red when they’ve matured. So makes me wonder whether there’s any maturing early perhaps too..
I can get more for sure. I’ll sort that after school pickup. Didn’t know about above. What should I be looking for with the girls? The lady we got from thinks they’re all roos at this stage. I’m so unsure on 1 and 2 for definite. She takes back roos but I don’t want to pass back until I’m 100%...
@Emelyn @Overo Mare whats your thoughts on today? Was hard to get picks they just wanted to keep running up to me or standing together 🤣 I’m thinking number 2 is still a girl contender but 3 and 4 for sure roos. Not sure about 1??
Thanks. Yes I’m definitely torn as there’s two that I definitely think are girls and the other two I’ve been unsure of the whole time. I’ve read quite a bit on many that have had redder looking combs and then were hens after all. I won’t be sending any back until I’m definitely sure so I’ll be...
Just taken these now. Sorry new to the page not familiar with uploading format.
One, possible Roo? (One kept photobombing)
Two, I think definite roo.
Three I’m thinking definite girl
Four, girl?
