girls not coming out of the coop for days/weeks?

Sorry if this is a dumb question , or one I should already know... We have 3NH Reds , 2 White Silkie Bantams , and one small Porcelian (sp?) Bantam , the last one being the youngest. They are all laying , or atleast had been before the days got shorter. Now they lay on occasion. My question...

    OMGOMGOMGOMG>>>>>> UPDATE!:

WOW...that really sucks for everyone. , and it could have all been avoided by keeping the dog under control. I haven`t read through all 15 pages , but you have to remember that most people that don`t have chickens , don`t realize they are just as much our pets and loved by us , as there dogs...

    Will it ever end?

I wondered the same thing after catching about 12 - 15 coons , and an opposum or two ,not to mention many several times of having the trap tripped with nothing in it Now I seem to have thinned out the heard , and only set the trap when there are signs of "problems"

    Close up coop at night?

I`d lock them up...why chance it? Mine are now in a 6ft. high ,14ft.X24ft. predator proof (?) enclosure all day , and locked up tight EVERY night...as a matter of fact each coop opening also has 2 screws that are unscrewed every morning and re-screwed every night , as well as locking the...

What to use to catch a COON in a live trap?

I use peanut butter to catch `em...works everytime. Spread it on the flapper , so they have to work at it , and the cats don`t get caught in the trap , as they don`t like it.

Well it finally happened to me too

Sorry to hear something got one of your chicks ...I doubt it was a coon though , as they seem to always eat just the head , and not the body. Sounds more like an opposum.

    my br has been eaten...

A `coon would have done more damage....almost certainly eaten the entire head. Sorry to hear of your loss. I caught another `coon last night. It`s been over a week since I last got one.

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

Quote: Okay, I suspect that you should switch to .22 ammo. Sounds like the .177 is just getting too much blow by. I'd stick with all lead or plated lead pellets (no nylon), RWS or Gammo have good reputations. Shame on the manufacturer, that just can't work. Again hard pointed rounds would...

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

Quote: I thought the same thing , but have read about it and don`t know if I could do it. I`d buy another (higher powered) pellet gun , if I KNEW it would work better.

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

I totally agree...I haven`t taken a shot at anything that wasn`t already trapped...I don`t want to wound or cripple an animal...even a dang coon I`ve never shot anything that wasn`t in the trap...it may take several shots , but they end up dead. I`d prefer it be done quickly and simply , but...

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

Quote: The gun is a .22 cal. , and it states you can use .177s as well. The reason the .177s are falling out is because they`re too small to tightly fit in the chamber. If you held it level they shoot fine , but it`s kind of hard to shoot level at something in a cage on the ground. I bought...

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

Yes , it`s a break barrel. The skull seems soo thick , the pellets bounce off , and are FLAT. I`ve been trying to get them in the side of the head in the ear area.

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

All shots are as point blank to the head as I can get with an angry coon at the other end of the barrel. It`s an 800 fps gun w. the .22s (1000 fps w/.177s , but they fall out of the gun when it`s pointed down ) I wonder of the gun is not working as it should , it`s less than 6 months old......

Who`s using a high powered pellet gun for predator control?

I`ve read here , as well as other sites , that many are using them to "get rid" of coons , and other preds. I`m using a Crossman .22 w/some armor piercing type ammo and, after catching them , am having a hard time (requiring several shots) putting these guys down. I don`t want them to suffer...
