Thanks
This has been a wonderful unexpected adventure. Yes I have boys and girls and know the out come but my girls were so uninterested in committing to this. My daughter is in a 4-H livestock club and has decided next year these babies will be her project. start to finish.
My 1st batch of hens are 14 months old. 1 went broody and sat on 9 eggs, not all her own. my girls lay in a community box. Their choice not mine. So after about what I thought 20 days I checked and there was a little black ball of fluff. I moved her on her nest into my original small coop...
Thanks for info. Now for another question I haven't been able to get an answer on... My girls aren't laying yet but my more mature Roo is a ready. Will that cause problems for the girls? Thanks
At what time should the be separated? I think I missed the cut off for that. I just started to let them free range and my adult Roo is trying to be inappropriate with my girls. Any advice would be awesome.
How long did it take for them to start laying. This is my first flock. They are about 20 weeks old. I don't think I will be getting eggs for about 4 more weeks. fingers crossed.
I was going to get my 1st chicks there. Tooo many family obligations. Yesterday my husband said "hey do you know there is a rooster in our woods?" Well my 1st chicken found me. Funny how things work out.
If your brother is interested in organic chickens, he should research a man named Joel Salatin. Polyface Farm in VA. I found him through several of Michael Pollans books. There are also several videos on the subject @ Atlantic County Library.
I have heard about that place in Tabernacle, is it ok? Once about 15 yrs ago a friend & I bought a rooster from a slaughter house. Could be I was tooooo city for that, it was weird.
Thanks
I have only been in Atlantic county for about a year now, my coop is about 90% done and I am getting ready to start my flock. I have been looking on craigslist but I am never quite sure.
Thanks
