How long do I have to incubate after laying

I was wondering how long do you have to start the incubation process after the egg has been layed? Is it best to refrigerate the egg once it is layed till you can incubate it? I ask because I travel out of town on business and would have to incubate while I'm in town. Thanks for the help.

    Question about Fertilizing Eggs

WOW !! Thanks for all the great responses. I cracked one open and sure enough it had the "bullseye". So they are are fertile like you said. Now I at least I know. I wonder why the hens don't lay on them then. Guess I'll have to see about incubating them. Thanks for all the help. Bert
