Our sweet little Australorp, the first hen we raised by hand - we called Coco. However, she has turned to the dark side and pecks at us now and thinks she is 'supreme ruler'. So she is now known as 'Darth Coco'.
Yikes... an internal layer? I haven't come across that term before. Is that bad?
I think I might take her to the vet ... it's quite a drive out to the only vet that knows anything about chickens- but I'd rather make sure she is ok.
She doesn't seem to be in any pain ... just big/wide and heavy.
Thanks for the replies. Rosie is about 3 years old - she was a good layer but got egg bound once and would have died if I hadn't convinced the vet to have a look inside her. The vet found a manky egg and removed it, gave her medication and she recovered. She started laying again but after a few...
My hen, Rosie, who has not laid much in the last six months (maybe 1 egg every 2 months) is getting very fat and heavy. She has had reproductive 'issues' and I've given up on her as a layer - she is still around only because we love her.
She waddles around slowly and is real heavy to pick up...
The white egg was not in the nesting box... rather, it was inside the coop in an unusual place. I thought that as a) I didn't know how long it had been there exactly, and b) it could have been a weird egg from the girl who had not laid for 6 moths, that we should rather not eat it, and instead...
"Ok ... we've got this far ... now what next?"
It was quite funny to see my hens perched precariously on this ledge! They normally just roam around (on the ground)!
Not sure what they were really thinking but it isn't unusual for Bok-Bok (on the right) to escape - she is a real Houdini!
I love it - maybe I'll turn it into a mystery novel!
Needless to say I gave the white egg to the dog.
And if it was the non-layer coming good - just as well I didn't 'get rid of her' as was suggested ... (could never do that I'm way too fond of them)
Interesting - I mean, I guess I knew it was one of them (highly unlikely a seagull sneaked in there to lay eggs!)... but... which one!!
Thanks for your reply!

LOL! No, I just thought she had finished laying (even though she is only nearly 3 years old) and was letting her live out her days in luxury! I even bought a new hen to replace her eggs (a little one not big enough to go in with the others yet)
It is possible there was one from...
It's autumn here in Aus, so I was surprised to find 3 eggs in the coop yesterday - from 2 hens!!
Even weirder... one of them has reproductive 'issues' and hasn't laid for about 6 months!
Weirder still ...
2 brown eggs in the nesting box - one of them covered in yolky stuff on the outside.
