Job well done!! Based on the final result, I can tell you put a lot into the planning stage. Can you guestimate the final project cost for the materials you used? Please add in the pier blocks since you mentioned that will be part of said costs.

Kudos to your project!! I too had that same issue when I first moved to a farm and we decided to raise layers and cornish Xs. I also used your approach, but due to the amount of birds being raised, kept our demensions at 4x8x2, then after the first batch, reduced the size to 36"x96"X18", which...

    Braggs Mountain Poultry

Hi, Having moved from Central Michigan the beginning of Dec, to Daytona Beach, I've found that I now see more daylight even though we had the same time zone. I think it's because we are closer to the equator and actually see more sun than up north. Might be wrong and it's an illusion, but...

Chickens won't sleep in their coop and it's cold outside!

Quote: First, they don't know what they are doing, they are only reacting to the light that was put in... which with the quilt thrown on top, blocked the ventilation (more than likely) and made it way to warm in there for them... so they go outside... 2nd, what you are describing is frostbite...

If you were told you could only raise ONE breed, what would it be?

Quote: That's easy for you to say... with Townline right in your back yard... I would agree... ISA Browns are decent layers, but our Americaunas are matching egg/day that the browns are doing... + I still have the rest of the mixed flock that seem to lay well... All in all, I think the...

    Wolf stalking my pens.

{Wish me luck. DNR has less of a need for the coyote population here. We can kill them anytime of the year. My question is... Why did they reintroduce the wolf when they have so many problems with the coyotes?} The answer when I lived in Frankfort (35mi S.W. of Traverse City) is that the wolf...

Flies HOW TO GET RID ?

If the DE doesn't work, try www.spalding-labs.com for their predator wasp control program... We've used it around our barn with goats/sheep and chickens and it works well... min order listed worked for 9 goats, 25 hair sheep and 50 chickens when spread liberally around the barn area where poop...

If you were told you could only raise ONE breed, what would it be?

Definitely would have to be more Braggs Mtn Golden Buffs, Americaunas, Aricaunas, Delawares and Buckeyes... very hearty here in S. Central Michigan... my flock is out in 10 - 12" of snow/ice from the current storm scratching at table scraps... and current temp is about 25 degrees headed for 32...

    How cold can chickens take?

Here in S. Central Michigan, we've been avg'ing 13 - 20 every night... we keep our girls in hoop houses with reg plastic tarps over them. The ends are loosed overlapped with the tarps and the door ends don't have any cover at this point and despite the wind, snow and ice, all of our birds are...

My coop smells like a Pig Pen

We use hoop houses to house our flock and roosters(separately). We muck out our sheep and goat stalls and add that to their "flooring", which the chickens feel obligated to scratch thru looking for goodies... We are currently using straw/pine shavings for the animals so we have a decent area...

    Braggs Mountain Poultry

Good Morning, I just posted a reply to this under another listing by Shellimac... so I won't try to add to other postings. Hope you understand... The gist of the reply is that we love this breed for size of bird and are ordering more this next season. Well worth the money based on the birds...

    Braggs Mountain Buffs

I just joined the forum today, in order to respond to this posting and some others here... with that being said... We've owned BMGBs for almost 10 months now. They are incredible birds... they've adapted well to Michigan weather and once this molting issue is resolved, we'll get back to...
