Folks, my 1.5 year old Americana hasn't layed a green egg for several months. Thought it might be a molting issue. They other girls in the flock are the same age and have been laying ok. I don't think she is hiding them as I look around the compound regularly. Any thoughts on what is...
I collect eggs daily and noticed some on the floor beneath the boxes. I would say they could be 2-3 days old. Are they still safe to eat? Temps have gotten up into the sixties during the day and down into the 30's at night. Am I better to just throw those away?
My blue egger has been intermittent since day 1. But she has turned it off for the last month and I am assuming because of the winter months setting in. She lost her tail feathers and is maybe molting??? Looks funny without them. Oh well, all my other breeds are still giving me eggs. Go figure.
Can you mix these different kinds of hens all in one coop and run? Thinking of a small flock 4-6 girls. Can they be intermingled and do they roost together? If anyone has done this, what kinds of birds did you mix? What about feed? Is it one feed for all or would I buy different feed for...
So I am wondering if you can raise and house different egg layers all in the same coop and run? If so, which ones make the best roomates? I am thinking of maybe a flock of 4-6 total birds. Anyone done this and if so what specific mix worked for you. Will they all roost, eat and play...
I too noticed that the pellet size was smaller. Probably means more consumption??? Haven't heard any complaints at our daily meetings. If it is more beneficial though I would tend to stay with it. Can anyone recommend an equivelent food at comparable price?
So I have bounced around a little bit on feed from Purina layer to Organic feed and now looking at the Purina Omega 3 pellets. Anyone have thoughts on this feed or any feed in general. The organic pellets in my area are twice the price as non organics and not sure if worth the extra expense...
So my 10 month old has stopped laying her green eggs and don't know why. Is it normal in the colder months for them to completely stop? She isn't molting and seems like all is well. What am I missing here?
I will check the leg colors in the morning. The girls have gone off to bed and it seems like a good idea to me. The barring patterns sure looks the same to me at first glance. My Barred has a sweet personality and she is the first to talk to me as well as greet me.
Hey folks, I added some cuckoo's last week to the flock and they look exactly like my older barred rock. Is this accurate or are these the same birds? My barred lays brown eggs right now (not dark brown) and so I will have to wait until the younger birds start laying. Are there some other...
Well. I added 2 crosses and also 2 cuckoo marans. The crosses are bigger than the marans. I mixed them in with the older girls and there was some pecking orders that were straightened out. The older flock of 5 were funny to watch as the new gang of 4 arrived. The two groups have stayed apart...
One of my 10 month olds looks like she has lost feathers on on her back end. How do you know if it is molting or something else? It's getting cold up here now. What season or month do they molt? At what age do they have there first molt? She seems happy and laying eggs. Don't see her...
Hey folks, thinking of getting some 4 month old crosses at the local feed store. Anybody have any thoughts on this combination bird. They look real light colored tan...like some Buffs I have seen. The feed store says they will lay brown eggs and this is a cross they have sold for a long time...
