I have a chick with a leg stuck tucked up, Usually I'd expect it to be dead by now but somehow it's surviving in second day, just wanted to check if anyone has any ideas that might be possible to help?
The leg only moves at the hip, no movement below at all.
I've had many quails before but this if the first time I got some American bred ones, so this male I have will start vibrating his wings loudly when it gets dark and I've never seen that behaviour before. He doesn't jump or anything and as soon as lights are on he stops. He doesn't crow much...
To my surprise I just witnesses my Chinese painted quail mate with a Japanese hen twice, I understand despite the size difference they're closely related species, it is possible that they could produce a mix?
I have a similar problem hope it's ok to post it in here.
I've had two chicks die both were about two days old I found them both on their back struggling, Is the cause of death because they've been on their back too long? the one that just died today was kind of stuck in a gap I turned it back...
Thanks for the support everyone. To my surprise it turns out another egg is starting to hatch, never had such a late hatch glad I kept the incubator running.
I was going to get someone to help with checking the beak but the chick is fine now, Certain it ate something like a piece of hair I keep my quails inside and I've seen adults do it and get the same reaction because it tickles their throat. Anyway chick is fine now and eats and drinks without...
I left the chick alone for a while but it's still an issue, so I've held it and inspected it and it seems fine however it is constantly wiping its beak against my hand as if something is irritating it, I couldn't see any hair or anything poking out and I don't know how I can inspect inside the...
Definitely warm enough, it sleeps fine. It does try and eat with the others it's just that issue of it not liking the feeling judging by the constant head shake.
It's only a day old so I'm hoping it will solve itself within two days I'm just worried about what to do if it doesn't. I'm starting to wonder if it might have eaten a small piece of hair and it just has an itchy throat from that. It's calmed down at the moment but still will suddenly start...
I have five jumbo quail hatch all are doing well however one keeps peeping loudly sometimes, it seems like even though it tries to eat and drink every time it tried is shakes it's head, I'm watching it try and eat right now and it always ends up shaking its head.
