    Neighbour complaint

The problems with no crow collars choking roosters is from the owners putting them on too tightly or using substitute items to jury rig a homemade collar. Spend the money, buy the one that has been developed and tested to work and put it on correctly. Don't be cheap.

    Can I fight it

    1) Fowl are not allowed in your city limits unless they are 1000 feet from neighbors of any type. 2) Fowl are not specifically defined in the code. 3) Fowl under common definition covers all birds, ergo, all Parrots, canaries, finches, emu, etc are fowl and NOT ALLOWED within the city limits...

    Two drakes -mallard and rouen

Ducks have lived happily in urban and suburban areas - even inside homes with humans for a while now. If you have the room, can you get a roofed chainlink dog pen for their daytime ranging and bring them inside to sleep in a large crate at night? (if you don't already) Have you considered duck...

    Help, rooster needs assistance.

I don't understand people. This roo has been living free range in their neighborhood for over 3 years and now suddenly it's a problem? Chickens are good at foraging for food, they eat bugs, mice, baby rats, snakes, ticks, flies and anything else that is too slow to escape their hungry beaks. If...

Duck Starts Laying Eggs After 4 Years of No Eggs

Thanks. I'm glad Lucy's saga helps others... I give her the cat kibble straight from the bag (I buy a big bag - seems like everyone loves cat food, even the dogs) She gets a coffee can full of water daily in her crate with a lid to keep her from soaking the crate. Doesn't work. I have baked some...

Duck Starts Laying Eggs After 4 Years of No Eggs

My 6 year old Crested Black Swedish duck, Lucy, stopped laying eggs back in 2012 when her flock was killed off by a raccoon or fox. She was the lone survivor, I think because she passed out from fright. When I found her, she was covered in spit, blood, leaves and sand and was staggering around...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

That's awesome CMOM! I am thinking that we won't be able to afford property around here. Everyone here thinks their property is worth a million dollars, even when it obviously is not. I really don't want to move to be near relatives because they all live in cities and are quite happy being in...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

LOL! You got that right. This IS a strange town. They want the charm without the reality. They want to be Disney-esque. Actually probably 90% of non-working-farm towns in FL want to be like Disney - look historical but not have the reality. I blame it on the city folk who come here. They're so...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi from Crazy Town, Bassetgal15! Have you run into the zoning restrictions in town yet? Or are you wisely located outside of town? I live in a neighborhood on the west side of town, where the lots are barely 90ftx110ft. In town, we have to keep our coops 100ft from the neighbors' homes and they...

    Greetings from Lake Helen, Florida!!

Greetings Kreisherk! If you are on the East side of Lake Helen, you probably won't have a problem - especially if the back yards are more than 100 feet between borders in any direction. Here on the West side, we have problems keeping even a few hens, because the code requires 100 feet between...

    Beautiful Cherry Egger Rooster

I'm sorry I can't give your boy a home, but I want to know, what is a 'cherry egger'? That is a breed I have not come across yet.

    Are chickens domestic pets

Interestingly in Indonesia (and Phillipines) Ayam Serama (tiny chickens) are kept as household pets the same way people here in the US keep parrots and canaries. I would argue that Bantams and Seramas especially are 'Small birds usually (or traditionally) kept indoors.'

Code Violation - Lake County, FL

Well, there's you answer. Keep track of EVERY time they disturb the peace with their drumming and loud music, then call in a noise complaint. If your neighbors also call in complaints at the same time, these yahoos will have to settle down. and give you some peace. Meanwhile, see what you can...

    Show off your house ducks!

@ Scovy Mama - Thank you. I have PM'ed you. Lucy will be so happy to have a diaper once it's made! (I let her pick out some fabric today - she picked out a bright print, so I'm ready to sew!) I'll see if I can adapt the size for Lucy's neighbor, Hope, our indoor chicken. As far as dogs & ducks...

    Breeding for certain muscovy traits

My question for Wynter is, aren't muscovy/pekin crosses sterile? I know the mule are (males). Do the hinnies (females) even lay eggs? Edited to say: Never mind. (smacks self in head) I looked in the forums and found out that Hinnies do indeed lay eggs. They just won't ever hatch. So my...
