The day before yesterday I went outside to feed and water the chickens when I noticed one of my Saipan hens was doing something funny. At first I thought they were just hiccups, but then I noticed she kept doing it and doing it, so I figured it must be a sneeze. I freaked out and cleaned all...
I know it's hard to wait to find out but that is probably what you will have to do. Most people wait until they are two months old or older to check the combs, saddle feathers, etc...If you want to back yourself up, go ahead and get some more. I don't think the size difference will matter if...
Did you say you bought them at straight run?
I've heard that some hatcheries (I'm sorry, I don't know where you got yours at, but I'm just guessing...) fool people into thinking newly hatched chicks go right into the straight run area as soon as they are hatched. What I've heard from a couple...
Also, many times a cockeral's head spot is organically shaped. The pullets' are more small as others have said and circular.
Look at their feet, too. Pullets have darker and thinner feet.
I'm no expert but those combs do look huge for that age...I'm sorry, that's probably not the news you were wanting to hear.

I know there are many guidelines for raising chickens and such the 'right' way, but I raise my babies like farmers before me: keep them in the barn or basement until they are 2 weeks old, then stick 'em outside with the hens (if they are spring hatched, of course). Many of you probably don't...

Haha, too true. My other ones are just 3 months old and they're already looking like miniature adults! My silkie has a hay day with them, though. They're just her size.

A chicken's ploy? Hehehe...
Knowing that my local Co-op would have chicks today, I naturally needed to go and see if they had any vegetable plants for our garden. Needless to say I came home with 2 pullets, which is pretty good for me. A black sex-link and a golden comet. They were debeaked (sad day!) but I just...
