Nine day old chicks and momma

How did this go?? I am in the same situation with my momma hen. She sits up on the roost away from her chicks now. Seems like she wants to escape to be with the flock. The other hens/rooster can see her and the chicks in the coop but have chicken wire btwn them.

Broody hen with chicks about to hatch

I believe I have some chick water/food feeders from when we raised these hens so I can put those in the nesting box. Granted they were flipped over soo many times lol. I will try the water feeder you have posted. She has water nearby now. And the food is in the coop as well. Just a matter of if...

Broody hen with chicks about to hatch

Correct that’s the egg door. The whole coop is elevated off the ground but the nesting box is on the ground level of the coop.

Broody hen with chicks about to hatch

The nesting box she is in is on the ground level of the coop. And she put herself in the corner box. So basically you’re saying just leave them there? They will just come out on their own when ready? Do I put a separate container of food and water in the box with them? They have a large coop and...

Broody hen with chicks about to hatch

We discovered one of our hens was broody. She now has 5 eggs under her and will likely hatch some next week. As I am new to this I don’t know what to do. We have 2 other hens and a rooster (who is not nice) Once the chicks hatch do we have to take mama and babies out of the coop and raise...

    Sprain/broken Toe

Yup ointment on the wound twice a day. Today I let her out in the coop with the 4 others, she stuck with them but mostly stood on her good leg and curled her toes under. She does relax them and put her leg down. Like in the crate now she has pressure on her foot. Crossing fingers she is just...

    Sprain/broken Toe

The other thread only discussed the puncture wound. So figured I would discuss the foot issue in a new post. she was lifting her leg up and curling her toes in. There is no discoloration. She is putting some weight on it. But not a lot. are you saying put ointment on the toes? Cause there is...

    Sprain/broken Toe

So yesterday I posted about my hen being attacked my a fox. His lost a lot of butt feathers and got punctured. She seems to be healing up fine. Cleaned it up a bit and checking on it regularly to see if it gets infected. NOW this morning I noticed she is limping. Doesn’t like to put too much...

    Fox attack, hen injured

It is under her vent. She lost most of her long tail feathers but she still has feathers covering where the puncture is.

    Fox attack, hen injured

So one of our free roaming chicks almost got caught by a fox. Luckily we were there to scare it off. But now our girl has a wound. What do we do? Does she need to be separated from the rest? Does she need ointment or something. this is our first time raising chickens and the first injury...

    Rhode Island Reds Roosters???

Sigh what a bust.. but with only 4 hens we can’t keep 4 roosters, right?

    Rhode Island Reds Roosters???

    Rhode Island Reds Roosters???

We recently got 8 chicks, 4 golden comets which we knew were hens and 4 RI Reds which we didn’t know what they were. Now they are approx 3 months and we fear we now have 4 roosters. Can you help us tell if they are roosters or hens?
