Thanks for the suggestions I will look into those breeds. I havent come across many breeders here in South Australia who breed them though. I have thought about breeding the Australorp back through, hopefully I can keep the pretty colours going ChickenRun8

Im after an attractive chicken with a great temperament, and hopefully one that will produce a nice medium egg. We have two Australorp X Barnevelders, the cockerel being one and a hen also in the photo, but the hen seems to be a little shy, not sure if this is the barnevelder trait coming...

Thanks for you replies Being the cross he is, would he make good chicks and if so would it be better to put him with an Australorp or barnevelder hen or could he mix well with a RIR/Light Sussex

Hi All I have a 10 1/2 week old Barnevelder X Australorp, which I think is a cockerel, although he doesnt act like a cockerel, and feathered much quicker than the other pullets from the same hatch.

Hi I found Sussex to be very friendly chickens to have and as Hillbilly hen said Black Australorps are great too! We also had some leghorns and from personal experience althought they did had beautiful white eggs, they were way to flighty.
