    Chick with weak leg, hopping

I have a chick, 10-14 days old, who since yesterday has developed a bum leg. It was very active yesterday, This morning, the same chick is a little slower (eating and drinking very well though) and it's weak leg looks like it's not growing as much. Can I correct this? Can she live a decent...

Chick hopping, weak leg looks smaller

All of my chicks were fine until yesterday, when I noticed one hopping, but very active. This morning, the same chick is a little slower (eating and drinking very well though) and it's weak leg looks like it's not growing as much. Can I correct this? Can she live a decent life as a hopping...

I just lost a girl to that earlier in the week. My sympathies.

    Egg binding or what???

Sounds a lot like egg binding, try another warm bath, and applying vaseline to her vent? Can you feel the egg "on deck" waiting?

    Black Scab Fell Off

It could be a head pecker from the sounds of it, I'd guess that before I guessed a predator, especially since neither sounds like a substantially grave wound. What's changed in the flock recently? Have they increased egg production a lot, or have you added new birds for instance? If she's...

    Black Scab Fell Off

Are you sure there's no chance of injury... Not even a nip from a hen? Sounds like a pretty normal comb injury to me, if it isn't, can you try and get a picture? I know you posted it last night, but when in doubt with boys and cold, vaseline their combs and wattles. In this case, I'd...

    Hen condition rapidly deteriorating

She's still hanging on, but only because I'm too cowardly to help her on her journey. There's no way she'd survive being held upside down and manipulated, right now the simple act of moving her to see if she's alive is clearly rough on her. The idea of getting liquids into her is definitely...

    Hen condition rapidly deteriorating

My egg-bound/broken internal egg hen just got another bath, and while bathing her, she kind of laid down, and foul smelly yellow brown liquid came out of her beak Someone PLEASE help me, I have no idea what's going on.

    Egg broken internally- PLEASE advise.

She's in a large dog crate, but she is feeling more perky this morning, so she's been up and readjusting her new living quarters a bit, and doing a little pacing, and is incredibly curious about the going-ons in the room beyond the crate. She's definitely feeling better than she was, (though...

    Egg broken internally- PLEASE advise.

The issue, and what I've done so far: I noticed yesterday morning one of my pullets that just started laying wasn't eating and had a droopy tail and wings. At that time, her vent area felt completely normal, but I isolated her and had to assist her in drinking. She would not eat. By evening, it...

    Horrifying Sight

I wouldn't rotate girls through. The pecking order is a fickle thing, and changing it up all the time is never easy on the hens. Get her a dedicated flock or buddy, or get rid of the rooster if you're concerned about her safety.

Hawk attack, should I give antibiotics?

Yep, it will be back, and it will now keep it's guard up a little better, but it won't stand down. We have 2-3 red tailed hawks that have made our yard a very frequent spot to check since they ate a few chicks in 2008, despite having not caught anyone since. They're like the velociraptors in...

Hawk attack, should I give antibiotics?

Definitely isolate her, if she's not feeling well she'll need the safe space to rest up without getting bothered. Other birds can be jerks if they know you're feeling crummy. Iodine is just a disinfectant, good for initial cleaning, not as much for fighting gnarlies... neosporin is an...

    Hen's wing is broke

Just guessing, look up angel wing splints and put something similar on to hold it in proper place and stable so it can heal properly. Did you try looking this up with the search? I know you're not the first person with this problem.
