She must have heard me talking about her pubicly, because it's back in and feathers are dry.
I stopped feeding her layer crumbles and switched her to free range greens only. It stopped her from laying.
Hopefully when I feed her again, it doesn't happen again...and yes, I buried my finger twice...
My 4 yr old, actively laying RR has a vent prolapse. I had been all over the message boards and tried sugar, preparation H,
manual insertion (she thinks I love her now.)
She keeps prolapsing. HELP! I don't want to end her little life if I don't have to. She is dripping poop everywhere, including...
Oh no! I just thought of something. I hope she didn't get into fertilizer of something. Some mice ripped a bag open and my DH left the barn door open.....hmmmmm.
One of my 2 yr old hens had been laying around more than normal for 1 day. I noticed yellow runny poop. Then next day she was dead. Any ideas?? She had been eating/acting normally and laying regularly up to the day before she died. I don't want my other hens to be sick, but I don't know what I...
Definately sell them for atleast $2/doz. I take my extras to work and they are gone in seconds.
Do you have any fine restaurants nearby that may want free range eggs?
Not to be off the subject, but is this the justusnak from the Primitive Rug Hookers Group on ebay?? It's chickonaroost!! Fancy seeing you here. Deb, where in SE indiana are you-(maybe already asked you that on the PRHG site, sorry if so.)
Rughooker, where are you from??
I got on today to do a search hoping to find someone else with this problem....I'm so glad I did.
I thought I saw a little cockroach run out of one on the nesting boxes last month when I was cleaning it. I convinced myself it wasn't a roach, since that just grosses me out completely.
I went out...
A skirt would be fine, but bury it down atleast 6" along the edge. So the wire 'wall' goes underground. My worst predators have dug down to get in. If you did opt for a wire floor, you could put litter or straw over it and it would be buried very quickly.
Her feet look fine. I was just out there and she isn't putting any wt. on it at all now...just hopping on one foot. Poor old girl, she's still laying me about 2 (gigantic) eggs a week too...
I have a 5-6 yr old barred rock who has been limping for months...first just a little, and now a lot. I never found any injury, it isn't broken and she doesn't act like it hurts her when I touch it from top to bottom. Can chickens get arthritis?? She is getting "up there" in chicken years. Maybe...
I ended up with 2 to many roosters. I work with a gal that has a big dairy farm and gobs of chickens with which to humor my randy roosters. She was kind enough to agree to take my 2 extra boys. She works night shift, I work days. We had agreed to meet at work (in a hospital parking lot) to make...
I'm not sure how many days, but I could guess. Most antibiotics stay in a HUMAN system for about 24 hours. If it takes a week or so to form and produce an egg, I would guess after about 7 days since the last dose, they would be OK?
Anyone-how far off am I???
If they are desperate to be together...
If her eye has no wound, but won't open, she may have nerve damage from a nearby bite. If that is the case, she may never be able to open that eye. I think if her other eye seems ok, she will learn to work with one, but be careful of the other hens. I had a blind chicken (cataracts believe it or...
