    Help identify these hens please?

Yeah, she doesn't look much like she should! I'm positive that's what the feed store had her labeled as, but in my experience hatchery birds are rarely a good representation of the breed. I believe hers is the egg on the left. The right is an orpingtons

    Help identify these hens please?

Here's a better picture of her, much more upright and smaller than an Australop and Jersey Giant. Very hard to find information on!

    Help identify these hens please?

Thank you, I was thinking the light one was a Sussex, she is so sweet, I would love more. I kept looking online and finally found my black hen, she is actually a Langshan, although she is a hatchery bird so probably not a great representation of one, lol.

    Help identify these hens please?

I bought the black one last year as a chick from the feed store. A breed that I hadn't heard of before but they we're very curious pullets and I came home with 2. I was sure I'd remember the name but even after searching breeds nothing rings a bell. It is a smaller hen, not a great layer and it...

Help with goat injury on shoulder

~*Sweet Cheeks*~ : Quote: I was feeling for you and for Rocky until I read your post from last week - one week after having to put your dog down (a sad event for sure). Yeah...no way I can keep it a secret [getting quail] but I am feeling a bit guilty between this splurge, the incubator I'm...

Can't remember/find temperture for baby coturnix

I moved them to a different brooder today, so I wanted to sort of get an idea of where it should be, since I couldn't remember. It is more ventilated so should be easy for them to move away if they get too warm. My main concern was that they get too cold since it is outside. Thanks a bunch!

Can't remember/find temperture for baby coturnix

What is the recommended temperature/week for coturnix? Like chickens, you are supposed to drop 5 or 10 degrees every week... I came in today and they were panting...but they seemed perfectly content 3 days ago. I raised the light a bit, but would rather put the thermometer in there to know right...

Help with goat injury on shoulder

My family just put down our beloved 9 year old dog 2 weeks ago. Overnight she came down with something that was causing liver problems...she was jaundiced and doing verry badly. Taking her to the vet, I was told that it would be about $300+ just to do the blood testing to maybe find out what it...

Help with goat injury on shoulder

Sorry...I didn't realize that this thread was still active! Thanks for all the replies...we haven't had a chance to test for CL yet or really do anything. The whole family has been battling one illness after another and then we had to put our dog down, so the last couple of weeks have been...

Wet Silkies-how wet can they get?

lol! I do have some waterproofer I could spray on them I wanted to say that they are smart enough to get out of the rain, when need be, but then again, they are chickens They look so ridiculous when they are soaking wet, it's hard not to feel sorry for them. haha...maybe that's part of their...

    Roo fertility

Haha...another silly question. If you have more than one rooster running with the ladies, I'm assuming they can both mate with the ladies....would a hen then have sperm from both roosters? Or will a hen not mate after she's mated with one of them? And since they are fertile for a couple of...

Wet Silkies-how wet can they get?

I've heard that silkies aren't waterproof. Mine are free ranging, but don't seem to be smart enough to take shelter under the trees now that it has started raining. They are just sitting in the middle of the yard, soaking wet. The rest of my flock hangs out under some of the larger trees where...

    I'm getting coturnix - Update w/pics...

That worked great...one of them fell off like the 2nd day on, so I just put a new one on. I decided to redo the other one, while I was at it, because it looked like the toes weren't perfectly straight it already looks much better than the other foot. Thanks again!

    My girl is spoiled....

Quote: She turned traitor yesterday. She told the rest of the chickens that I was handing her treats on the back deck....now the whole flock has been chilling on the deck, pecking at my sliding glass door trying to snag a few treats of their own!
