    Buff Orpington Laying Habits

Thank you! I am surprised too! She is the one that I originally thought was a rooster because she has a GIGANTIC comb...guess she proved me wrong :p I'm sure the others will follow suit soon. She already has a favorite nesting box, so cute lol

    Buff Orpington Laying Habits

My buff Orpington just started laying (wooo!) she started around 18 weeks and is now 20 weeks old. She was laying cute little perfect eggs once a day but now she will go a day inbetween at random intervals. Is this normal? These are my first chickens so not sure what to expect! I’ve only had...

    Buff Orpington Roo?

17 weeks today. Updated photo of my mystery chicken! 🤣

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Very true! I’m not sure. I assumed they were all the same age since I ordered them as day old chicks from Cackle Hatchery. They did throw in a few extras, could she be some type of mix or maybe just a genetic thing? Not sure. Thanks for all of your help and discussion! Sure is fun trying to...

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Agreed! She looks so much like a rooster in front 🤣 poor girl may be confused or is just a Roo with very late blooming tail/saddle feathers. I have seen some RIR pullets with rather large combs and wattles* so I am still hopeful!

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Hoping she’s just a well-endowed pullet in the facial area 😂! She/he is stunning! I would really love to keep her. She has always been the most friendly and comical of the bunch. We can’t have roosters where we live, unfortunately. Every day I check the nesting box anxiously!

    Buff Orpington Roo?

The mystery continues! Really hoping for a nice egg in the bin soon! That will tell me for sure! ...or a cock-a-doodle-doo and a very peeved neighbor Haha

    Buff Orpington Roo?

I’m leaning towards that too...but hoping it is some kind of strange hybrid chicken with a large comb 😂😂😂😂

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Ok...she really does look dramatically different than the others now but still only due to the comb and wattles. No saddle feathers or difference in the tail feathers....my mom thinks I’m insane for saying this is a pullet still 😂 I said it ain’t over until the fat chicken crows! ...I guess :lau

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Yay! I’m so glad to hear. She’s one of our favorites in the group and my city doesn’t allow roosters so I would’ve been so sad to see her go. I had a moment of panic

    Buff Orpington Roo?

We ordered this bunch sexed from the hatchery but they threw in two “extras” for shipping and I’m wondering if Shirley is a he! All of their combs look about the same but hers is slightly redder and I see some waddles forming faster than the others. I don’t notice any difference in the leg...

    Blind/handicapped Duckling

Update: The owner found a local farm sanctuary to take the little guy and he has a new, smaller, handicapped buddy to hang with. They are doing great and he seems very happy <3 Sad I didn't get to meet him but I think that placement will be much more beneficial for him! Thanks for all of your...
