    5 in one night

well, it came back last night, it didn't get into the coop, but it was sniffing around. I smelled it and hubby went and grabbed the rifle, I am pretty sure we got it, cause it did not run real fast after it was shot, nor did it spray, it waddled away really slowly and went into a drainage pipe...

    5 in one night

So I have been having problems for the last couple of years with chicks disappearing. in the last 3 years, I have bought 200 chicks, all but 2 or 3 have mysteriously vanished. I thought maybe it was a predator, so, I went and cleaned out the coop really, really well. I got every last piece of...

ok, im at a loss now

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies. Well it seems that whatever it was that was ailing them has been worked out of their systems, as this morning when I went to go and check for eggs and release them, I found 10 beautiful light brown smooth hard shelled eggs!

ok, im at a loss now

Quote: If I could put a stop to it, I would. I have yet to find a way to keep them out of the cracked corn. I have 14 ducks and 12 geese. I had them in pens, until one of my kids let them out one day, since then they stick around and swim in the drainage ditch, eat the weeds and harass the...

    black and bleeding combs?

thanks chickerdoodle. electric fences are not really an option, all of my birds are free roaming. they are by far the best pest control I have ever had. between the ducks, the geese and the chickens, I had no problems at all with the house being over run with crickets and grasshoppers. you...

    black and bleeding combs?

thank you Emys. I was told I needed to leave the lights on 24/7, because the temps do drop in the negative double digit range nightly. would a red light be better? or is that just for chicks? as for the rooster/hen ratio, I did have about 57. unfortunatly this seems to have been the summer for...

    black and bleeding combs?

this is a question in regards to my 3 white leghorn roosters. I have 2 large white leghorns, and one smaller. I have noticed since winter has set in, that just the edges of my roosters combs and sometimes their waddles have begun to turn black around the just the tips, and then they bleed...
