There isn't really an option to move it. (No room... the entrance door is on the front and their run door is on the back then the two sides have windows.) Lately, I have been keeping the windows closed because of the wind and rainy weather. So it has been mostly dark(er) in their coop but they...
I need help!! My Barred Rock Pullets have came to the age of laying. I have only have 3 pullets out of the 14 laying. They're almost 29 weeks old. I have six nesting boxes about 10" off the ground. The boxes were made out of milk crates and they have straw in there for bedding. They will not lay...
Finally painted my coop! I am so happy how it turned out! Now in the spring the run will be expanding greatly for my girls! This year we moved and had a lot on our plates so it was not in the picture to expand it just yet!
I have a trap to cover and protect the floor. Then I get pine wood shavings from TSC and put a nice layer on the floor. Then just a broom and shovel to clean up. Very easy!
Thank you!!
I have 14 Barred Rocks in this coop and will be expanding the run this spring for them. Something much bigger and taller with different things to jump on and a tire with dust and sand it in so they can dust themselves. I don't think this size coop would fit more than 16 chickens...
Scratching in the nesting boxes? I believe so but not sure. Some boxes the straw keeps thinning out and I have to replace. So possibly? I just never personally saw them go in there yet.
Thank you everyone for the advice! Also I noticed each time the egg is on the floor. I have six plastic milk cartons for nesting boxes and some have golf balls and others don't. When do you think she'll learn eggs are supposed to go in the nesting boxes not on the floor. Lol
My BR Pullet laid her first egg yesterday and another today! Only 22 weeks old, but dang her eggs are tiny! Barely anything to eat! When should I expect her eggs to increase in size? I purchased BRs because of their large brown eggs. I have people wanting to buy eggs from me but I would fell bad...
Here's my lovely coop! I still have to paint it. Was going to paint it teal blue and the trim pieces white! Its 8x8 and the run is 8x14. I have a tarp lining the floor of the coop to make cleaning a breeze! Just sweep up the flakes and lay down new! No poop or water absorbing into the floor.
I'm playing the waiting game now! I literally made a countdown the minute I got them (counting down to egg laying age)! lol I cannot wait for fresh eggs!
