    Need help understanding my Tom

I had two bonded Toms from the same hatching. They grew up together. They had established dominance and got along very well. They were always side by side, literally. They are approximately 7 - 8 months old. About 6 weeks ago a neighbors dog attacked and severely injured the less dominant of...

Sick as a dog from my chickens and turkeys?

Thanks guys. I am feeling a little bit better that my sickness may not have come from my birds. Going back to bed now! Thanks again for the input.

Sick as a dog from my chickens and turkeys?

Thank you Micheal for the response. I hate to think that I got this from my birds. I have become lax with handling them though. This has been a wake up call for me. Hopefully this will pass soon

Sick as a dog from my chickens and turkeys?

    Buying baby chickens

If you end up with several roos, just speaking from experience, I would get rid of all but one. Save you future trouble :)

    Buying baby chickens

I raised the baby chicks next to the outside yard of the coop. The adults could see them and hear them. When the chicks were about 4 weeks old, I put them in with my hens and roo. No problem :)

    Buying baby chickens

I have read that but in my experience, I have added young chicks to the flock twice with very little problem and added to baby turkeys with the same results. I think it depends mostly on the breed of chicken :)

when to switch from starter feed?

My girls are still on Chick Starter/Grower and they free range daily. They are all laying beautiful hard shelled eggs and are very healthy. I don't plan to change their food anytime soon.

afraid to let chicks free range!!!

I was TERRIFIED to let my chickens and turkeys out of their coop and yard. I was sure the young turkeys would fly away and the chickens would run into the woods never to be seen again! I got my courage up a few weeks back and just opened the gate. They all ran and foraged happily for a few...
