I have a 3 year old RIR hen that has reciently showed up with no neck feathers in the front. The skin is red and irritated. My husband said he thought he caught her in the act of picking on her own neck. This is one of our favorite hens who is very tame and likes to sit on our lap. In the...

Hello! A family of crows have come to our house. In the morning it is very loud. Today I spied and found that a group of about 7 were flying in and out of the chicken run and eating chicken food. I think some of them are juvenile birds because of the sounds they are making. We let our...
I'll give her a good look tomorrow. It was dark when I discovered her making the sound. Thank you! I feel a little less stressed. It totally sounded like a "voice change" sound. Fingers crossed.
Tonight I noticed one of my pullets was making a honking goose like sound instead of little chirps like the rest of them as they were bedding down. Could she be sick? 12 weeks old.
My RIR hen lays beautiful big brown eggs nearly every day and she is over 2 years old now. She also likes to jump up in our lap if we sit in the garden. My BO is not as tame but is very friendly and big, fluffy, and beautiful!
Last night my two week old RIR chick charged and pecked at me while I was changing the water. This is very strange, as the day before the chick was falling asleep in my hand. The comb on this one is developed more then my other chicks but I only have one RIR. Can you see diferences in...
I was just wondering about this same thing because all of my 2 week old chicks have tail feathers but my little RIR. That chick still has a fuzzy butt. These chicks were sexed, but last time I got a Roo anyways. I cuddled it the most because it stayed so cute and fluffy for so long. Very...
We are keeping our chicks in the 2nd shower. This is the third time we have used this set up and it works very well. I just tape over the drain and fill the shower pan up with pine shavings. The bathroom is small and draft proof (good thing in my old 1920's era cabin).
The dog used to chase the chickens but I managed to train her. Now it looks like she is at the bottom of the pecking order... right after I took this the rest of the girls came up and pecked her out of her sunny slumber.

Do any of your chickens like to rest in the dogs bed? My Buff O like to relax with my boxer mix in the sunshine on the porch... lol!
