    Help first winter with chickens

Stupid tiny phone buttons! Anyway, I stood in the yard with the "extension cord to nowhere" until I decided to open a window and run the cord through that.

Darn. The girls might have enjoyed the pool, too. Its funny, I have owned this house for nine years and not once has it ever occurred to me that there are no electrical sockets at all on the backside of my house. Because it was snowing and sleeting the day I put their waterer in the pen, I...

The cameras ARE a cool idea! I'm not that high tech... in fact it took me two friggin' days to figure out how to run power to the coop for the water heater. I think that I will put that on my list of things to do, though.

    Help first winter with chickens

I only put a tarp up on the west side of the 'dog run'.... that is also where our weather and wind blows the hardest from. We have big dogs, so we put the coop and my ladies inside a 10 foot by 10 foot by 10 foot (tall) dog run fence. Think castle with a moat. I secured a row of 3/4 inch...

Nice looking coop PBARR! The cams are an excellent idea, too. We have large dogs, so I ended up put a ten foot by ten foot dog run around the coop. Ironically, I use a dog run to keep the dogs out of the chicken run, but that's another story. We had chickens when I was a kid and I've always...

    Help first winter with chickens

Hello from Colorado! This is also my first winter with chickens. I searched and read and then searched and read some more as winter approached regarding how to warm the coop for the ladies, (my five hens) and the majority of the info I read said that they'll do fine as long as they're out of...
