    Daughter's dog killed one of our babies, not sure what to do with her partner.

    They're all hens, we can't have roosters in city limits. The alone one is having a really hard time. The flock of 4 won't let her even near food, so we've set her own little safe area up, but she just won't stop this distressed peeping. :( Who would have thought a chicken could emote like that.

    We started a flock with 4 chickens in April. By late May we were pretty certain we had a rooster (turns out we didn't, just had a really bitchy buff orpinton) in the bunch so we got two more chicks, brooded them and recently started introducing them to the other 4 girls. This had been going...

    I'll take a picture of the inside tonight. For the hardware cloth I went with lathe screws, they have a wide top and hold the cloth down well, one screw every 4 - 5 inches or so, very secure. I'm going to buy some furring wood to cover up the cut ends of the hardware cloth so no one pokes...

    Pretty big update today. one little bit to paint, 2 hinges to add and a couple of panels left to put up hardware cloth, but once that little bit is done, she's finished. We moved the girls into the coop this evening to help them to start to acclimate to it, I'll finish up the hardware cloth...

    Work goes very slowly unfortunately, but I should be wrapped up in the next few days. I got quite a bite more done after this today, hardware cloth is almost complete, just a couple of sections left and the main coop door for cleaning has been cut and is drying. Oregon rain isn't helping...

    I forgot to take a picture of it, but there's another 2" of hardware cloth around the outside edge of the cinderblocks. That should give us enough protection in suburbia.
