Turning the chicken over and setting him down on his back. who would've know that they would turn very calm and almost asleep.

Added V8 bottles with water nipples on the bottom and add a 3'x7' 1/2" hardware cloth framed and planted some mixed fall greens underneath it for him to eat greens throughout the fall.
Finally after 5 nights of working with the silkies And teaching and showing them how to get into the coop, last night they ALL went into the coop by their selfs for bedtime. But I'm still having to work with them and teach them they go to sleep on the roost by picking them up and setting them...
I haven't had any problems with predators so far. if I do end up having problems with predators trying to dig underneath I made add an apron on the ground.
The way I did mine was i measured out the dimensions used a string line Pulled tight this show me where to dig the trench so I stayed in a straight-line I used a sharpshooter Shovel and Doug down about 6 inches and the shovel was about 6 inches wide. i then poured dry 50lb bags of sack Crete...
Their first night in their new coop. had to go out there after dark and placing them on the roost. I don't think they've ever had a roost in their lifetime to sleep on. Hopefully they learn quickly and get the hang of sleeping on the roost. so I don't need to go out at night and moving them.
lol, I didn't mean as in, strangling the chicken. Circling your thumb and pointer finger in a C shape at the base of her neck and using the other three fingers over the wing in a scooping motion to move her off the eggs, just to control her head and she can't reach around and pick you anymore...
Thanks! I haven't had a problem with silkies being mean and every description that I've ever read talks about how docile the can be. The only time they're aggressive if a hen is sitting on the nest she has his picked at my hand but once you put your hand around her neck and scooter off the egg...
lol thanks. Over the last three weeks I have not seen my silkies fly more than a foot above the ground For less than a second and it was only after a jump.
Nesting boxes are complete, Each bin will have a Rubbermaid box with pine shavings in each box as shown in the picture.
