Not to worry :)
White Rock is on my list of possibilities. They should certainly be a specific breed: they came from McMurray's to our feed store. And really, it doesn't matter that much, except I'm CURIOUS!

We got sucked into Impulse Chickens at the feed store last week, despite the fact that we could just grow out another batch. But of course, these were breeds we didn't already have. Chicken Math.
At any rate, we picked up a Welsummer, a Buff Orp, and this Mystery Chicken to add to our flock...
Okay, here's the deal. I bought 4 golden comet (and thus sex linked) golden brown chickens. Now they're 25 weeks, still no eggs, no egg song....and in the last week, two of them have started CROWING. At first it was funny, but now it's 5:30 am when they start and it goes for an hour or more and...
We finished our chickenhut today! It's home to 4 Golden Comet hens, who are 20 weeks old, and going to be laying ANY MOMENT. We built it out of recycled materials scavenged off of CL, only buying the roof and the hardware cloth (even the paint and hardware were recycled!). It has a chicken door...
After a full week of bathtub chickening, we returned the still-limping Ruth to the coop. So happy to report that she's now fully recovered, scratching, walking up and down the ladder, and acting just like a normal chicken.
(I secretly miss having a bathtub chicken. She's good company.)
Two of my sweet hens got their bright red combs this morning! So funny, I just took a picture yesterday, so I'd be able 'to tell' when the color had changed....no mistaking THAT sign of chicken puberty! I was surprised that our smallest, bottom of the pecking order gal (Dolly) was one of the...
Day 3, and our Ruth is improved! It appears that she was injured rather than sick, perhaps because she keeps trying to fly down from the coop, and she's terrible at it.
She's still in the bathtub, but is up on her feet about a quarter of the time, starting to scratch through the shavings for...
We did thoroughly feel her up...doesn't seem to be anything broken or disengaged.
And she did eat a good quarter cup of chicken chow made into a mash, plus drink some water. We're just perplexed.
Well, of course she's all "I am not your trained monkey" and doesn't want to stand up for a picture, but you can see her leg kicked out to the side even though she's hunkered down. When she tries to stand, it goes out to the side at an angle. She can stand up pretty well, if she's motivated, but...
Good morning, good folks!
One of our new chickens is having a hard time this morning. I would argue that she's lame on one leg, and my sweetheart thinks both legs might not be working right. She doesn't want to walk around, and a leg is splayed out to the side. Here's a brief rundown:
She's...
