Kind of funny from my 17 year old sister. I was explaining that my eggs would be fertile because I have roosters, her response "so, I could take one and make a chick with it?" It made me laugh the way she worded it, she does understand it has to be incubated.
Aw, that's cute! My 2.5 year old doesn't have much interest in the eggs but he keeps trying to steal the golf balls from the nest boxes. Here in southwestern Ontario it's getting cooler, anywhere from 8-15 C during the day, but we've been getting frost at night.
Another one the other day, though it seems to be a common misconception. I was talking about chickens with hubby and he said he thought brown hens layer brown eggs and white hens layed white eggs. I corrected him, but what got me is our hens lay blue eggs so where does that fit in to that logic? :)
I am fairly new to chickens but have done a lot of reading. Since you only just got them it likely is just stress, it can take them a couple weeks to adjust.
I told my father in law I am keeping a rooster, his response "well I won't be eating the eggs then fertilized eggs are bad!" Lol, the man has been a farmer his whole life and they had laying hens when he was growing up :/
Later I was talking to my mother in law, I mentioned what FIL said when...
I got some ameraucana chicks in the spring and out of 4 pullets only one has started to lay. From what I have read this breed can take a while to get laying so it could be a couple more months before you see any eggs.
Thanks! It's great to finally get some eggs after months of waiting! I wasn't sure when I would get any as I've read that it can take ameraucanas a while to get started. Hope you are enjoying your duck eggs.
