Extreme Abdominal Swelling In 3 Week Old Duckling!

Thank you everyone, Ill be taking her to the vet tomorrow, as i have a major phobia of needles,, and I doubt I'll be calm enough to actually help her. I had to get my mom to drain an hen with ascites a few weeks ago because iIcouldn't stand the needle.

Extreme Abdominal Swelling In 3 Week Old Duckling!

Yes, she's acting normally. Update: the swelling seems to be spreading to her other leg across her back. She is very active and it doesn't seem the swelling is affecting her too much. My main concern is internal damage because of the swelling.

Extreme Abdominal Swelling In 3 Week Old Duckling!

I have a three week old duckling named Daisy, who was the only one to hatch out of three eggs. She's imprinted on my and gets very stressed when I leave her(she's harness trained, and loves going adventuring). So two days ago I was cleaning out the chicken coop, and Daisy was roaming the yard...

My Hen Has Welts On Her Face And Is Acting Strangely

I have a hen named Olive who I raised from a chick, she will be a year old on the 25th of August. She is a silkie/Easter Egger mix and has been very healthy previously. This morning I went outside to let her out of the coop, she shares a coop with two silkie hens and her two chicks, and noticed...

Awesome thank you for this advice, it's really helpful!

    I've Never Seen This Before..

Yes, that does sound like it pipped through the larger blood vessel, usually the chick is aligned incorrectly in the egg when this happens, so it's lined up to pip through the egg. It's unfortunate, but can happen with shipped eggs. Congratulations on the new babies, they are adorable!

Should I give my broody chicken fertile duck eggs?

Due to the lack of predators in the country I live in, mine don't have a ramp to their coop, so I have no experience with this. Do your ducks have a ramp to their coop? If they can do it, chances are ducklings can. When my hens hatch babies (even ducklings) the hens will often sleep in the...

Emu Or Ostrich For Beginner Ratite Keeper?

So my biggest question is emu or ostrich and why? My mom prefers ostriches as we went to this private sculpture park and the ostriches were so friendly, but I'm leaning towards emu. I mean, emu seem more manageable size wise, I'm pretty confident around larger animals (my parents own cows and...

Should I give my broody chicken fertile duck eggs?

I have tons of experience in having chickens raise ducklings. Usually the chickens make better parents for the ducklings then the ducks do! My hens and ducks all live in the same area, so when the ducklings grow they usually give up on the chickens and self-integrate into the duck flock. The...

    Call Duck Eggs

I once had an egg be broken under a broody hen, it was bleeding badly so the only thing I could do was get it out, I kept the tiny little duckling warm and comfortable beside me for his short 24 hour life. It was such a beautiful little duckling too.

    Cracked & dislodged air cell

Is it a rare breed or expensive egg? If it is a slightly cheaper egg I would toss it, as not to risk any bacteria spread to the other eggs. However if it is a bird that could potentially be helpful to building the species population or increasing the quality of a breed then I would leave it to...

    Call Duck Eggs

Oh I'm so sorry! That is so upsetting, do you have any hope for the remaining eggs? Even a glimpse of movement? Maybe you could order ducklings from a hatchery instead of incubating them? Duck eggs are hard to incubate, this is such an awful thing for you :(
