Well, mine are all hatched. Got a total of 22 our of 24 hatched. Every one that pipped did fine. Kept the humidity right at 30% and temp at 101* throughout even during the lockdown and hatch.
Now what to do with all these biddies......
I am very interested in any ideas on sexing them, please!!
Well mine weren't supposed to hatch until tomorrow evening but they started this morning about 9:00. So far we got seven out. For those that are worrying about temp and humidity and what not here is how its went for me.
I don't have no fan in the bator. The temp has held at about 100-103...
My humidity has held at 30% since I put them in so I hope that doesn't mess things up too bad. I have never put water in the incubator and haven't opened it since I put the eggs in. I guess I will put some in when I take the turner out on day 18.
Any guidance on how much water to put in to get...
I'm a little far behind all of you, but I have a question. I get to day 18, (lockdown?), on Wednesday. Can someone explain to me how this works.
Do you just turn the automatic turner off or remove it completely?
Do I need to cover the hardware cloth under the turner with anything or will the...
Well I had another hen go broody yesterday. If I knew they were going to take care of things themselves I wouldn't have messed with the bator. Oh well, whats some more biddies. I think the second broody got 3-4 under her. I didn't bother putting the rest of the days eggs under her.
Update on mine. I put 24 in 10 days ago. The temp has held steady at 101 in a still air styrofoam baitor with auto turner. I haven't messed with them at all. Just check the temp occasionally. I thought about candling some but I think I'll pass on it for now, I don't want to mess anything up...

Well by the time I got home from work today, it seems that the temp has settled in at 101.5 at 30%. Good enufff for me I reckon. I don't see any point in pulling them out and putting them back a bunch. I might try to candle them in a week or so just to make sure they look ok, though I...
I set 2 doz this evening so count me in. This will be my first so hopefully all goes well. I should have probably read up a little more before trying, but I guess there is no better way to learn than by doing.
I just left the eggs set in the laying boxes to collect for the last 4-5 days. Then...
Well, I have been trying the "place them on the roost after they are asleep" thing for a few nights. As soon as I put them up there they jump right back down. I have done the same thing with the nest boxes during the day, also with the same result. How will they learn if they dont even stick...
I finally got pictures of the coop/run:
Here is the roost that they refuse to use (thats the homemade feeder too):
Here is where she lays (in that scratched out hole in the corner):
Here are the nest boxes I built for her to lay in (complete with pine shavings and golf balls):
And...
You went all out we see. I just don't see putting all that expense into a chicken run....
But to have a place to put the kids when they come home from grandma's house all sugared up..... I better go get my hammer and nails;)
That warning is a little late. I got my first few cause I thought it would be cheap eggs with the way the economy is going an all... Boy was I wrong about that but I have stumbled on a new hobby. Its like they are a stress reliever and a challenge all at once.
I will try to get some pics of the...
