When I got my brood of chicks last spring our son got 2 ducklings. They were seperate for months. Then when all were able to free range the ducks and chicks have been housed together in a large coop. One duck hated our dog and finally was killed by the dog. "Lucky" the other duck now thinks...
I agree...it takes forever to get their adult plumage. We got two straight run ducks...no idea. We ended up with two males, a mallard and a cross. It was fun trying to deside what we came home with!
:rolleyes:My ducks did just fine on the same medicated feed. The biggest trick is to keep them from getting themselves and everything else wet! Big messers in the water. Not suposed to be soaked for so many weeks...thats hard...they can get chilled.
goats are herd animals. She has to have a buddy. It doesn't have to be a goat. Just someone she is with: dog, horse, etc. Even then they sometimes get curious-very smart animals!

I'm new to the chick biz too. I am in central IN and understand that if they have no drafts in their coop should be ok with just a heat light. I have gone in and looked for light during the day and caulked. I will also increase the amount of chips on the floor even though my brood roosts on...
I'm new at this chicken thing. Look and see if the incecticide was oil based. Sometimes they have instructions on the can. You might have to use a mild detergent like dishsoap and water. I understand your concern. Hope this helps.
