I have a white Silkie rooster in with my mixed flock of hens. Many of the girls have bald backs so I decided to put some eggs in the incubator. 2 hatched today!! The have black skin, beak and eyes with feathered legs and their feathers are mostly black with some white mixed in. SO ADORABLE!!!!!
I just hate the idea of having to throw out all of my eggs for 2 wks after worming my flock. My husband doesn't think that an all natural wormer would work. What is your experience?
I came home tonight to find my RIR hen laying beside the coop with blood dripping from the back of her head, right behind her comb. She wouldn't open her left eye, so I couldn't tell if it was intact or not. No other obvious physical injuries. I tried to give her some water, but she wouldn't...
My husband just found a nest in our garden with TWENTY eggs in it!!!!!!! TWENTY!!!!! And they were from several different pullets!! I had been wondering why I hadn't been getting any blue eggs........well, I found them!!
Now what do I do??????
The reason I want to separate is 1) to be sure the eggs are getting fertilized 2) that the right rooster is doing the job.
This EE rooster has been nice so far. He is very stand offish.
Just wondering if its ok to separate them from the rest of the flock long enough to get eggs to incubate...
I just ordered 12 more from Ideal Poultry this morning!!!! My excuse is that I have had several die, all for different reasons, had one rooster that I had to rehome and just realized that I have another rooster. This only left me with 10 pullets.........Sooooooooo, I needed more!!!!!!!! I...
Hi guys! Hoping you can help me out!! I just confirmed that one of my EE's is a roo. I had been suspecting this for awhile, but this morning I heard him crow!! So, now I have a roo and 3 EE pullets (2 of which are laying). Well, I just got to thinking that if I want to breed these...
Does anyone use a bug zapper in the coop? Was just thinking it might help with the flies. We live near a dairy farm and we also have cows and occasionally pigs so I'm thinking that DE might not help much.

So far, I have just applied Betadine to the puncture wounds. Then I was gonna put some Vaseline over them to keep the flies away.
I don't have chewable aspirin here, just childrens chewable Motrin.
I also have some PenOne Pro (Penecillin G) in the frig that we had given to a cow last...
My daughters little 5lb yorkie mix tried to eat my broodie hen!! She chewed off allof her tail feathers and started chewing on her skin. I'm just sick!
My BCM hen is still alive and still sitting on the 3 Silkie eggs that I slipped under her but she looks so sad!
