    Predator?

After also picking off my female malard we caught that murderer! He won't be eating my ladies any more! The chicken buffet is closed. One very large coon is now DEAD! Hopefully that was the only one.

    Predator?

Thanks! I have don't know how it got in. We have a 6 ft. fence around the pen but it didn't have a closed top. It does now! Possibly there. What ever it was, was in the coop because that is were most of the feathers were. But mom and babies were all found in the pen not the coop. Thank God we...

    Predator?

We had our first and hopefully last attack. This morning I found my orpington mama and her 2 baby chicks dead. There wasn't much left of the mom. Wings, feet, ribs, lots of feathers every where, and her head about 10 ft. from the body. The chicks were left whole and uneaten. Any ideas what it...

    splash silkie chick color question?

Good! I'm glad they will be splash as they favorite color. So, if they may be lighter would that make paint splash? Anyone know when the splash coloring will appear?

    splash silkie chick color question?

I have my first silkie chicks hatched from my broody silkie mama. Both parents are splash but my 2 week old chicks look they are white maybe even a light grey. Will the splash coloring come later or is there a chance they won't be splash colored at all???

    Buff Orphington Rooster

We got a Roo by accident last year when we bought our first chickens, 6 BO's. I tried everything but he would not be nice to me. A good protector of his girls but I couldn't take my eyes off of him so he had to go. I hope you have better luck!

Wanted... almost ready to hatch eggs?? Does anyone offer them??

Just buy some chicks and have her adopt them. I put 2 Tractor Supply ducks under my Broody silkie and she took them and raised them just fine. She didn't even care that they were ducks. I put them in a separate box close to her so she could hear them for about an hour or 2 and then put them...

How many chicks can I give a silkie surrogate?

My chick order of 6 chicks came today. I also have 8 eggs, 6 of which I think are growing, are due to hatch Thurs. by my broody silkie. Could I give my silkie the 6 chicks also? If I can when would the best time to do it. I don't want her to leave her eggs but I don't want the chicks to be to...

    What breed is your broody?

Both of my Silkie's that are a year old have gone broody this Spring. First time for all of us. Our First clutch hatched 1 chick but she died a week later and now our other Silkie is 9 days into sitting on 8 eggs.

Will a broody hen foster ducklings?

I did this with my first broody,a silkie, a couple of weeks ago and she accepted them just fine! I set them in a box close enough for her to hear them for about an hr then put them under her during the day. At first I was afraid 1 of the ducks wouldn't accept her but it came around within an...

Chick breathing hard and sleepin a lot

Thanks for the reply! Mom doesn't seem to be pushing it away? Not sure what that means? I did give a little sugar water and have a red chick waterer in there. I hope it snaps out of it but it seems to be getting worse rather than better.

    silkie chick breathing hard

My 1 week old silkie chick who is in with its broody mom seems to be breathing hard. Opening her beak with her breaths. Acting like she is sneezing sometimes. When I noticed she wasn't acting right I checked her and it looked like her vent was pasted up. So, I cleared it. Any suggestion what I...
