Tips for introducing chicks to resident dog?

We also don't let our corgi and chickens together. If we have the chicks out in the main backyard, our dog is shut in the house.

Yes, 5 is a nice age. She loves to help and is just such a sweetie. She named Bowtie. Her 3-year-old sister named Flower.

No, she's holding Flower in the picture. Here's her with Bowtie. So while the day started off rather gray and dreary, it's so nice outside now. I love it!!

Wow, that would be scary. Glad she's okay, but that stinks about having to get your window fixed.

    Cochin Thread!!!

We're just starting out with having chickens. We picked up two bantam hens on Saturday. So far we've gotten two eggs (one yesterday, one today) from one of them. It's very nice how friendly they are. My 5-year-old loves that she can pick them up and baby them.

Thanks. My daughter just came in with a still-warm egg from Bowtie, her brown chicken. So it looks like we've got one of them laying. Hopefully the second one will start soon.

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

My 5-year-old holding the first egg we've gotten. We got 2 Cochin Bantam chickens on Saturday and she's been checking for eggs since then. She checked this morning before school, but when we got home this afternoon she had an egg waiting for her. She was so happy about it (if you can't tell from...

are your dogs and chicken friends

Uh, no, our dog is not good around our chickens. He's a corgi and is just too nippy and interested in their movement. So we keep them apart and everyone is happy. Actually he likes to go up to the outer fence in the chicken area and look at them in their run that is about 15 feet away.

Thanks. I'm so glad we got an egg so soon. She'd been going and checking since we brought them home on Saturday to see if there were any eggs. She carted that egg all over the house for awhile. This week in pre-K the letter is E, so on Friday she can bring something in for sharing that starts...

Thanks for the welcome. Nope, we're in town, so no roosters and only 3 chickens before we need a permit. With the size of our coop, 3 would be our max anyway. Plus we don't eat that many eggs, so 2 or 3 would be good for us. The chickens survived the night. Yay! :) I half expect my 5-year-old to...

We have chickens! We bought a house with a coop and brooder in the backyard. Also it looks like there a wooden box set-up for raising chicks in the shed next to the coop. It even has electricty to plug in the heat lamp. We're not sure about raising chicks. Anyway we picked up 2 cochin bantem...
