Poor things can't drink without dipping their crest and or beards in their water and getting soaked... then they dip their head in the shavings and well...the result is pretty funny
Is there any type of waterer that I can use that will help them? I know I cant be the first person to have dealt...
Here are some pics of our 15 week old BO. We have thought her to be a pullet but in the last two weeks her comb and wattles have has grown and are now triple the size of our other pullets (EE, Australorp,BR). EEEK! Please tell me she is just an early bloomer
What do you think- Pullet or Roo?
Oops! I missed that chew593 had already encouraged you to post in that section im such a goober with the online forum format! but ditto - post pics! Let us guess
Totally normal, i will say though that our chick that had that feathering pattern ended up being a little roo~ I'm not experienced enough to say if that's always the case or not... You should post pics of them in the 'what breed/gender is this' section- I'd love to see what people think. How...
I am sooooo not building another coop the trauma of this one is too fresh!
I realize after rereading my posting that i wasn't all that clear- I guess what I'm looking to do for now is to create a temporary coop space so that I can move these little beasts outside as soon as they feather (I...
Okay all you experts out there- I need to figure out where or how to put on an addition to this is the coop we just finished building
It currently holds four pullets who are almost 3 months old. Which is great- but the problem is... eh, shortly after moving our pullets outside the feed store...

Totally great advice! Doesn't make them any less fun, or lessen your sadness when something you raise by hand dies~ but you've got to be realistic about it- they even eat their own
*We went on vacation in Kauai Hawaii and they have free range chickens all over the place there. You all...
I used non medicated organic on our first batch of pullets ( almost 3 months old now). We bought a 50lb bag at the feed store and they said it would be good to feed them all the way until they were ready to lay. We raised them in a brooder with a hardware cloth floor and took great pains to...
Do you have corrid (amprolium) at your house? When our chicks got cocci (bloody poo, ruffled feathers, depressed lethargic) we gave them corrid in the drinking water for 5 days and mixed Aureomycin (chlortetracycline type c medicated feed) in with their unmedicated feed for 14 days. They showed...

This is a great question ~ i cant get my little dumb bells to put themselves to bed either! Its been two weeks of big girls in the coop life! I have to go out every night and nudge them out of their corner in the run and patiently coach them up the ramp one by one by shining a...

You will need to use hardware cloth if you want the coop to serve as protection from predators
"Hardware cloth" isn't much better. Small predators such as Coons, Possum, Rats, Cats have been known too go through "Hardware cloth". A better choice would be 1" x 2" or 1/2" x 1" welded...
I would love to see pics of your progress as you develop this! it looks great so far
I was on here researching converting these playhouses because a friend just gave me this exact playhouse today and I'm going to use as a grow out coop for my new polish chicks .
Since we are working with...
That's hard. I'm glad to hear she is doing better but i totally hear ya with being worried about putting her back in... I think some vets do blood tests for some of the really serious diseases like Marek's if they do, You could get her tested to see if she had it or is a carrier now or if it was...
Well, sad news. On Monday we called our vet- they wanted us to bring her in -which felt a little silly but we decided that the worry of communicable disease and the hope that they might be able to help was worth it but... They said she was too far gone and they didn't clearly know what the cause...
