We have to drive an hour each way to pick up some of the chicks we're getting, so does anyone have suggestions about keeping them warm on the trip? How concerned should I be about it? We're getting four of them.

I'm getting new chicks soon - four from my friend and four from another person - and I just want to be sure if I should keep each group separated and quarantined off from each other for awhile, the same as if they were adults. Can anyone tell me?
Good thing I have plenty of fried mint from the last place I lived :) Yay for free! I've been waiting for a good use for it! Guess I should plant some basil too.
Have any of you used essential oils with your chickens? I love using lemon (especially on fresh bug bites) and the bug repellant one...
I'm wondering which breeds are more heat hardy and have done best for any of you here in Louisiana. I'd like to have two or three different breeds, and lean towards darker eggs and gentler birds, since I enjoy holding and petting my animals most. Opinions?
That's a good idea. We are getting ready to build our coop and get some chicks, and we also have a pet snake :) At least that's a last resort if we were to order them through Ideal.
There's someone that's from Eunice posting that they have chicks of different breeds for sale. Some bantams. I'd like bantams and marans. Love that dark brown egg color :D
