I'm looking into runners for my son, who's poultry crazy. I had a quick question for you. I read one thread about the genetics that you are working on and you mentioned that White masks... Is white dominate then and if you cross it on another color, say buff, that you'd only get white?
Thanks...
Sorry I hadn't gotten on in a while. Update is that chick has made a complete recovery. She was given the vitamin/electrolyte water and then I added the vitamin E and fish oil to her food and that made all the difference. She's back in with her hatch mates and although she's a touch smaller...
First, I'm brand new to quail... We were gifted some Bobwhite quail eggs [25 eggs which fit perfectly in my little incubator] and they started to hatch yesterday. We got one yesterday that was dark chocolate brown with no discernible stripes. This evening I came home and there appears to be at...
Thank you for the info... she is doing a bit better, is able to eat and drink but still star gazes. I'm going to get the poly vi sol, no iron and add that.
My son came in telling me that one of our chicks was looking straight up!! I quickly got online and decided it's got to be wry neck. Please confirm... I found a good website with lots of info about it... http://www.raising-happy-chickens.com/wry-neck.html
I wanted to try to document what goes on...
You should consider roosts at different levels and not just one long one. Many I've seen have two boards set on an angle with rung like roosts paralell to each other. That makes a compact roosting area. Look into it, they would probably like it!

After reading you alls posts I want a bigger incubator!! Mine only holds 12, I also set eggs 4/26... 9 Icelandics and 3 Old English Bantoms... got 6 Icelandics. None of my OEB were fertilized, and 2 Icey died pretty early on and one pipped and died. I hate when they do that. Makes me so sad...
I'm no expert, but they look great to me too. I love that we can see into that shell a little and see them moving, it amazed me the first time I saw it too!! I've gotten to the point where as much as I want to see, I only candle on 18 when I set my eggs... my hatch rates have risen a lot since I...
We had the Chicken Whisper guy in our area a couple weeks ago and that's what he quoted to us for roost space, 1 linear foot per chicken. They're not inclined to use that much space by my experience (which isn't much), they huttle together all snuggly close!
And there are other roosting bars in...
