Can you believe it, as I giving this little one back to its mama I can hear distressful crying. Another chick is in the same condition as the first one. I could tell it was better ready to be removed from its crushed shell so I freed it and gave it back to mama. When I went back later just to check on things under her, yet another crushed hatching baby. I removed it and the three chirping eggs under her. They are all in the brooder and I will return them to mama once they hatch. I think that the nest box is a little cramped and this is her first brood so she might not know that she needs to be more careful than she is being. Once the chicks can move about they can get out of her way. Until then they are just too vulnerable in with her.
