Just a note to say thanks all for your help. We think it is a pheasant chick, but have pretty much been doing the same as we would for a chicken chick! It's in fine fettle this morning and loves some company, but we're on the case of trying to contact some reasonably local wildlife...
Thank you! The chick made it fine through the night and is making a merry racket this morning! We've phoned a couple of nature reserves/sanctuaries nearby and are hoping they can take it in. We don't mind taking care of him/her but I'm sure there's a more sensible home somewhere nearby :)
Hi guys,
We have what we think is a pheasant chick - can anyone give us a clue about age and/or sex? Sorry, we are clueless about fowl! We found this chick on a busy road, with a squashed flat chick nearby and no obvious signs of poultry-type animals in close proximity. It's a bank holiday...
Thanks I'll check it out definitely - we figured that the care at this point would probably be very similar! We found a nature reserve nearby that we might be able to take it to tomorrow, fingers crossed!

I put a small (not sharp edged) mirror in the box too, hoping that will help for when I have to leave him in there.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the...
Thanks I will - if he makes it til the morning :/ He relaxes plenty when I hold him, but cheeps a lot and sits his bum in the water I put out when in the box! I'm worried he's going to make himself cold if he keeps doing that but don't want to take the water away.
Hopefully I can get a proper...
Thanks so much for the reply - it's good to know our guess was right, at least we know vaguely what to do now! :) It's in a box nearish a radiator at the moment and has chicken feed mushed up. It's a bank holiday here at the moment so none of the 'specialist' shops are open, we had to go to a...
Hi all,
I'm sorry to suddenly join and post a plea for help, but I have no idea what to do! My partner and I found what we think is a chick, on a reasonably busy road, with a very squished chick nearby (dead of course). We picked it up out of the road and had a good look around for any sign of...
