americana, araucana and easter egger pictures

Illia, wow! now that's a cool looking bird. Sorta Darth Vader'ish, in a pullet kinda way. cashdl "Sometimes boy will look you right in the eye where girls wont." Oh this one does. She definitely has an attitude and is quite spunky. She thinks that she runs the place, and that us humans are...

I hadn't really thought about it. I don't believe so, it's probably just a wild feather. Here's a picture of Hawk from the side. What's your impression?

Question about Large Black Ants in the Coop

Thanks. I was fairly sure that they wouldn't be a problem, since I've never had one of this type bite. I'm just a little over protective and wanted to be sure. Thanks again!

Question about Large Black Ants in the Coop

I searched for a similar posting, but did not find any specific to the large black ants, so.... Today we seem to have an invasion of large black ants in the coop. I see these around our oak trees all the time, but this is the first time in the coop. The hens love them, but should I be worried...

What's Your Chickens names and Why are they named that?

We have three Cinnamon Queens, Jenny, Zeva, and Colonel Mann. We had four, but Kate died (somehow that almost seems appropriate) . And we have one Roo, Leroy Jethro Giblets, Jethro for short. My daughter named them.

    climbing plants?

Quote: You could try putting cages around them until time to harvest. Maybe just high enough to keep the chickens from getting to it.

    Need Help with Racoons

Coons are surprisingly tough. If it does come to shooting it, they are hard to kill outright with a .22 without a very well placed head shot. A .22 magnum would be the least that I'd recommend for a quick kill. A twelve gauge shotgun with heavy shot might be better. Of course a couple .22's...

    Video Camera? Which model?

It depends on how you are set up. I suggest doing a search for a "game camera" on eBay or a similar site. They have a motion sensor and a flash to capture a photo when something enters their field of view. Another option, if you have a PC that is set up for video input, is to purchase a wired...

Yet another question about coop and run size

Quote: That would be the way to go, I believe. I built an 8x8, but I designed it to where adding on would not be a problem, and it's beginning to look like I will. The dang critters are addicting. Go Tigers!
