Hello, I have a Buff Brahma hen who apparently flew/fell into something that put a 1/2 tear in her crop, and liquid is leaking out. I think I need to sew it up, but am not sure what to use.
What did you clean it with, and what type of needle/suturing thread?
Oh dear, this one is exactly what it looks like. (the squishy photos) - I tried to get my finger up into her (well lubricated with a glove on, but got it far enough in that I could feel a tissue constriction at the end and did not want to press any farther for fear of doing damage.
I am...
Ok, these are the best pics I could get. It's a little difficult to get a picture that shows the size of the area that is filling more and more with something, that is not emptying out, obviously. The top one is me with my hand under her - that is where the pouch is, between her legs - about...
I just took 2 pics... I don't really know that they will show very much, the first one is from behind and I have my hand underneath to show the area where the pouch is located, and that it feels my entire hand, I think she is eating and nothing is coming out of her. The second is from the front...
I will try to get a picture tomorrow - but where it's located, will probably be pretty hard to see. If that's what it is, what can be done for her. I think she was laying a few eggs, but hard to tell. I'll post whatever I can get. Thanks!
I have a 3-4 year old Rhode Island Red hen who I thought might have a bit of sour crop, so I gave her a sour crop capsule (I've done this before with her, with success). Her back end was pretty dirty with caked up stuff, so I washed it all off with warm water, dried it, and put her back. She...
I would like to put up some window boxes in my coop area, and would just like to know what sort of flowers/flowering plants will not hurt my birds. They wouldn't be at a level where they could actually eat them, but if some of the leaves or flowers come off, I would want to make sure it...
Thank you for the information and concern. I had been feeding her every few hours, as well as hydrating. She kept jerking her head (like a twitch) to one side, and could not hold her head up. She just was absolutely miserable and I could not bear to see her suffer so any longer, because due...
I have a 9 month old Silkie hen who got water-logged in a sudden rainstorm, couldn't get under cover, and when I found her, she'd been badly attacked by my geese, and I assume, the rest of my chickens. All the feathers other than literally maybe 2, have been pecked out of her head, as well as...
I live in FL - have a pair of 1+ yr old African geese, and 4 3-month old Sebastopols. I have been searching the internet everywhere for info on how to make a pond for them - I have a large blue plastic kiddie pool from Walmart, but I have to literally empty it every day - and even tho I am on a...
Hello,
I have a 2 year old Easter Egger hen who, yesterday am, I discovered lying on her side, (at first glance, it looked the way they do when they are taking a dust bath, but she was lying in the grass, so that was cause for concern). When I got to her, she was just lying there on her side...
I am just wanting to recommend Nathan Howe, in Wesley Chapel, FL as a breeder for these lovely birds - I just went to his place and purchased 2 very young pullets - very healthy, active, friendly - and of course, beautiful. He has 2 roosters - 1 of which won top prize at the FL State Fair this...
Hello, I have some new babies, and had them in a crate with fine (1/4") wire all around, except the very top. I did not realize they had started to fly a bit, and I had a cat jump up on top (I honestly do not know how it got up there, as I had it up very high, and had nothing around it for it...
I just got 6 assorted new chicks from my local feed store, and I'm not sure if I should put a heat lamp on them at night. I think I read that for the first week, it should be 90 degrees, so I guess I should at night, but leave a place for them to get away from it if it is too hot? They are...
