    Dog Attack

Just checked on the girls and all seem well. I am going to pick up some vetrimycin and Blue coat after work for my injured girl. Looks like wounds have at least scabbed over. Flock mates seem to be leaving her alone. Thank you for your help Sourland. T

    Dog Attack

Thank you Sourland. It is dusk now and I am just not going to bother her tonight. I will try to get out there in the morning before work and check on her and put some bacitracin on there. She has been traumatized enough for one day.

    Dog Attack

Hello everyone, My chickens were attacked by the neighbor's dog today. I had 1 dead waiting on my door step when I got home from work, with a note and $20. Their house burnt a little over a week ago and they are not living in the house at the moment. I let the chickens out this morning before...

    Mini Schnauzers and chickens?

So, I have 4 2 year old hens and 6 day old chicks coming next week. I am getting a mini schnauzer pup end of June-beginning of July. I have not had a dog since having the chickens and wonder how the Schnauzer will do with them. I am hoping that if they are raised together I won't have...

    Pork Chop bones?

Ok to feed pork chop bones to pick on? I have given chicken/turkey carcass before but just wanted to make sure with the experts.

Mixing grower and layer for extra protein

I have been mixing layer and starter/grower feed together to give my chickens added protein. I have 1 girl that is quite bare and was hoping to help her get those feathers growing. I think they might be starting a molt now, they are just over a year. I am wondering how long I should keep them...

Lost my first chicken-what do you think?

I don't think it was from heat. It happened last Saturday, although warm not as hot and humid as the last few days here in the northeast.

Barred lost A LOT of feathers

I have a barred rock with the same pattern loss. She started becoming bare over the winter. I believe that there was some feather eating within the flock. All rear ends are bare, but poor naked chicken looks terrible. I upped the protien in their diet and they are ranging more now that...

Lost my first chicken-what do you think?

Came home from vacation to find 1 chicken dead in the run. My friend/sitter showed up at the same time as we did and she said they were all fine when she let them out that morning. Coffee had been dead for some time as she was stiff. It was very warm outside so can't say she was cold...

Help-Just rescued female mallard duck on road

One final update to this thread. My boys and I will be picking up the duck from the facility this afternoon to release her back into the wild. She has gained enough weight and her feathers have grown in enough for her to fly well enough for release. I am so excited to be able to do this with...

    Flax Seed?

I just bought some whole organic flax seed from the bulk section in my grocery store. I am guessing that I can give some to the girls, just wanting your opinions. How much, how often? Thanks

Help-Just rescued female mallard duck on road

Just wanted to add and update. This is the e-mail I received today regarding the duck: The Mallard is doing well- she has recovered from the head trauma and is eating on her own now. She is still very thin, and we had to tube feed her for many days before she began eating well on her own and...

Help-Just rescued female mallard duck on road

Thanks everyone! I think it is godd for my children to experience. I knew that either way it turned out they would learn something from it. But now I would love to add a couple of ducks to my flock . I have 2 small streams near my house but not large body of water. Oh well.
