    are leashes the answer?

I hope to leash one chicken at a time and take them to some green grass. I Jane none anywheres. Only shrubs and things they don't eat. Will they remember the green grass and try to go back. I can cover their eyes so they can't tell where we're going. I'll carry them.

Can you walk a chicken on a leash?

But will the chicken then try to go out walking by themselves? Like disappear to find that free grass again ??

Use old mail order catalogs on coop floor

HELP. I don't know where to post this one. I came home today to find one of my 7 ladies stuck between two parallel 2 x 4s used to create a large enclosure. IDK how long she was there and I had a heck of a time removing her. Nothing is obviously broken. She can stand but prefers to lay. I have...

Use old mail order catalogs on coop floor

I use catalogs on the coop floor to catch the poop and then each morning throw in the trash. Any known problems with this? My coop has never been so clean.

    poor versus good egg layers

I have white leghorn and have had americanas and rhode island reds. All are very good egg producers. But I have a barred plymouth who does nothing but eat and provide fertilizer. NO EGGS. And she is not molting and she is not sick. Any ideas?

    Show Me Your Feeders!!

I have 5 girls and feed them each morning from a large stone bowl with the little feeder top (the top with holes in it that goes to a regular feeder for little chicks) pushed lightly into the feed. It prevents them from scratching the feed everywhere and keeps them eating from their own little...

    complaint about chats

I have been using this board ever since I got my little flock of 5 back in April. Of late, when I log in to chat and ask some very important questions about chicken behavior, others are talking about buying cars, what their wives like, and the weather. I gently ask my question.....no...

Three hens digging holes? Whats up with that?

I have a bad situation with my little flock of 5. The original group, 3 plymouth rock were happy as could be. They were about a4 months old when I got them. Then I was feeling kind of, oh, this is great and went out and got two 3 month old black/blue austroplops. They never fit in well with...

Three hens digging holes? Whats up with that?

HI, I live just north of SF and am new to the group......but have gained a LOT of information and ideas. Thank you all. The hole digging is incredibly interesting to me. I have read all the info on the board about this. And I guess the consensus is that this dust bathing is just plain...
