I have over 100 hens right now and dont mind a reduced production. I have been working with the ag agent here as that was my thoughts..They done this years ago but things have changed so much. If I stop giving them feed..this group of hens will drop down to maybe 16 eggs a day...
I do not have a local place to purchase organic feed and would love to figure out a way to use something other than bagged layer feed all the time. Anyone have any success in doing this? I have put out oyster shells and they have free range of everything! I do not cage at all.

Thank you..I have a digital thermometer that is reading the outside temp and inside temp for now...Room temp is 73 and incubator is reading 99.6 right now...I know when I went to bed last night or should I say this morning at 3 am It was at 99.5 but when I looked at 9 am it was reading 98.6 and...
Okay I am on day two of incubation..My temp has been going from 98-100.5 Mostly staying in the 99s ... Is this okay so far??? Its holding steady today at 99.5 but this morning when I woke it was 98.6 I am using the little giant with fan and turner unit

I am so glad you started this thread! I have a broody girl that started this about a week ago..She is about 6 months old and I thought about putting some eggs under her...
Gotcha..okay now call me crazy but I did notice something a bit ago...I had the thermo setting on one side and I put my digital thermometer in the other side..It was almost as if one side was hotter than the other?? Is this possible..
Also what other type of thermom should I put inside...

So this is normal for the temps to be jumping around at the beginning...Will the eggs still hatch out okay if it jumps from 103 back down to 99?? If so I am good where I am at...I hate to touch that dial lol
